Energy Star

ENERGY STAR® labeled roof products can help building owners and home owners save money by reducing the amount of energy used for cooling. The Cool Metal Roofing products work by reflecting more of the sun's energy back into the atmosphere, keeping the building or home cooler and reducing the air conditioning bills. Metal Roofing products that meet the specifications listed below may qualify as ENERGY STAR® qualified.

  • Low Slope roofs must have an initial solar reflectance of >= 0.65. After 3 years, the solar reflectance must be >= 0.50.
    • Low-Slope Roofs: Surfaces with a slope of 2:12 inches or less. (As defined in ASTM Standard E 1918-97)
  • Steep Slope roofs must have an initial solar reflectance of >= 0.25. After 3 years, the solar reflectance must be >= 0.15.
    • Steep-Slope Roofs: Surfaces with a slope greater than 2:12 inches
